Muscular improvement in tennis

For all the sports where speed is required, body-building is important because it allows developing the "fast" fibers of muscles.

As usual in these cases, you should target the final movements and be careful with warm-up et progressiveness.

The three main muscular groups to consider are into the arm (holding the racket), the trunk and the legs.

 • The improvement of arm and shoulder muscles has to be done with the most used movements (forehand, backhand, service, etc.).

 • The improvement of trunk muscles has to be done with rotation and bending movements.

 • The improvement of leg muscles has to be done (squat, etc.) with bending and straining of thighs.

Finally, in all these exercises, it is important to find the limit between difficulty and pain. Difficulty is necessary but pain should be avoided.
